I have always loved the USA and Canada, probably from all the Saturday afternoon cowboy movies I watched with my Dad. Stunningly beautiful cities, great open spaces, there is a new adventure to be lived at every turn.

Peaceful Pools and a lot of hairdressing!

Not all adventures need a passport !

Yeah thats what I said...sometimes the greatest adventures start on your doorstep. ...and that was certainly true for me last week.

I have a great friend ( more like a sister) who always says " do something today that truly makes your heart and soul sing!"...and that is exactly what I did.

I've had an unhealthy obsession with highland cattle for years , but have never managed to get my hands on one. Cows in general make me happy and I am that person that yells "cows" as I pass by them while Im driving, but there is something about a highland that just melts my heart.

There are many places in the country where you can meet them up close, even have afternoon tea with the, although I am a little worried about how much of an afternoon tea a highland can experience, after all they don't have hands and their table manners aren't great. You can only imagine the delight I felt when I discovered a place , very close to where I live where I could get up close and personal with a highland! Looking for a little GLIMMER last week I booked myself in for Thursday afternoon and went to visit the highlands , Valais sheep and other fury delights at Peaceful Pools Wellbeing Farm, had to offer.

Thursday morning in West Wales was not a sunny June day ...it was bucketing down and I was half expecting a call to say I would need to rebook but as no call came, I got ready and headed out, wearing a very delightful Highland emblazoned t-shirt.

The drive to Peacefull Pools from home is about 50 mins and the scenery is breathtakingly beaustiful. I love a road trip, I always find time driving calms my brain and is the best "planning time" so I was looking forward to the drive. Even with the torrential rain, a detour due to an accident , nothing could kill the excitement.

Peaceful Pools is easy to find, well signed and easy to access. The farm track is pretty good even with tsunamis of water cascading down it. There is plenty of parking, a cafe and gift shop and the barn is dry and clean with toilets etc.

I was greeted with smiling faces and wet labradors ( who could ask for more and a barn full of animals....sheep (obviously we are in Wales), goats, dogs , cats, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs ......three bottle fed calves and two of the most beautiful Highland cows I have ever seen.

I was intorduced to everyone... I mean would be rude not to know their names when you are spending an hour and a half with them...and was given a safety briefing ( they are big, they are heavy and they have hooves...and sometimes you need to move quickly)...and handed a brush.

I spent the afternoon brushing TJ and Princess, two of the gentlest souls that I have ever met. They ejoyed it every bit as much as I did. I chatted horses and guinea pigs...and labs of course. I got to bottle feed three of the most beautiful , if not a little crazy, calves you could ever wish to spend time with and filled my cup back up with happiness and tranquillity.. If you have ever doubted the ability of an animal to connect with your heart and soul then sir, or madam, you must be dead! I had had a tough week and anxiety and panic had been kicking my butt. But and hour with TJ and I was the calmest I had felt in weeks. It is an almost zen experience , they really do connect with you and it was bliss. Many people are brought to tears, I was told, when they get to spend time with these amazing animals and I will admit to a huge lump in my throat. I was so lucky to have the place and the cows all to myself that day. The hour and a half experience was more very much longer. I genuinely belly laughed feeding the calves, they are like little furry football hooligans and if you ever get a chance to bottle feed one I encourage you to do it...it's epic.

I drove home with a huge smile on my face, a heart filled with joy and memeories that will last a life time. Am I glad I did it? Yes, Was it worth it ?...Yes... Would I do it again? Hell Yeah!
